For The Long Haul…

Hello old friends, new followers, and fellow bloggers-

Good evening!  I hope you all are having a great night…

There comes a time in everyone’s life where they must come to a decision.  I’ve learned through the years that my life will forever consist of moments when I will be challenged in my relationship with the Lord.  I  believe that the Lord allows moments to test the true motives and intentions of our heart, He is checking to see if we are more concerned with worshipping people and things more than Him.  To do this, He will allow things to end; He’ll say no to some prayers we offer up; He’ll even allow heartbreak and misunderstandings to test how we will react in relationship with Him.  Looking at my track record, I have been guilty of choosing things and people over God.  I have chosen romantic relationships over the Lord. I have chosen friendships over the Lord.  I have even chosen jobs and career ventures/money over the Lord.  I have found myself placing my affections on that which is temporary over that which is eternal.

However, tonight as I talked to God about a potential love interest in my life, I made a bold statement:

Regardless of what happens, Lord, I am not leaving you.  I am not deserting our relationship. For we do not worship people, we worship you.  And I am in this thing for the long haul.

How many of us are in our relationship with the Father for the long haul?

I decided a long time ago, that I was in this thing with the Lord forever.  I’ve come to the place where I love things and people but I don’t love anything or anyone more than the Lord.  I love God more than my career.  I love God more than the boy who has my heart.  I love God more than my friends.  I love God more than my family.  I love God more and at any moment if he asks me to sacrifice it all, I am willing to walk away from it all.  I don’t worship people and things, for the Lord alone is worthy of all my love, trust, and worship.

Tonight, my mind, heart, spirit, and soul are in complete agreement and I have decided that nothing will keep me from loving Jesus. Neither loss or disappointment will keep me from loving Him.  Neither heartache or betrayal will keep me from loving Him.  If I never get married, I will love Him.  If I never have children, I will love Him.  If I never become that big shot attorney, I will love Him.  If my books never sell, I will love Him.  I  am going to love the Lord for eternity.  That’s my decision and I’m committed to our relationship.  God and I have been in this covenant for way too long for me to forfeit what we’ve built for other relationships. Nah.  All I need is one word and I am willing to walk away, especially if that thing/person is competing for the throne of my heart.

Who or what does your heart worship?  Who or what has all of your attention or affection?  If God says no, is he still Lord of your life?  If things don’t work out will you still love and trust Him?  Who is on the throne of your heart?

For it is hard to fully love your Creator and your idol.  It’s hard to be committed to the King of the World and that thing you’ve exalted.  It’s extremely hard.  Trust me, I know.  You cannot serve two masters, you’re either going to love one and hate the other or hate one and love the other.  That which you’re not willing to let go of, or walk away from is your idol.  That is the very thing you worship.  We manifest these thoughts with words such as, “I can’t live without this.”, “If this left me, I don’t know what I’ll do.”, “This thing would break me.” Nah fam.  Nothing has the power to break or destroy you but the One who created you.  No man or woman has the power to make or break your life.  Only the presence of God has the power to make or break your life.  That’s it!  If that thing is not God, it does not have all of that power.  Do not give power to imperfect, created beings to sustain you. That is the job for the Creator and not the creation.  He alone is worthy of worship. He alone is worthy of worship.

So as you celebrate Love Week, let us make sure that everyone stays in their proper place. We do not worship people, we worship the One who created the heavens, the earth, and people.

Xoxo,

Simone
