Bone of My Bone

Hello Authentic Lovers!

Today has been a pretty busy day doing nothing…I should have written earlier but I was being pretty lazy.  Anyways, it is DAY 3 in our Adam & Eve series,  and I am super excited to share tonight’s topic with you: the creation of Eve.  As we all know Eve is probably the most remembered individual of this power couple because of her choices, but her creation is not only unique but demonstrates the creative genius of God.  SO….Let’s get started!

When we last spoke, man was created from dust to be responsible over the Earth and all that inhabited it- but as we will talk about later, man would relinquish this responsibility for a simple desire of hunger.  So now we are at the place where God has created Adam but He senses that something is just not right.  After all of the other creatures were made, God would speak  three words – “It is good.” but after the creation of Adam, these words are not spoken.  They are not spoken at all.  God noticed that everything He made had a partner, a community- a family.

Nothing that He created was alone, except for His finest creation – man.  Adam did not have a partner, a community, or a family that reflected who he was and what he looked like.

Imagine being the only guy on the Earth, there was not one single human being present in the Earth with you.  Just imagine.  I bet that you would feel lonely and out of place, like you lacked a piece of you.  This was the case with Adam.  He lacked someone who could relate to him and build that community that he needed to grow.  God is a God of community.  Think about it – there are three parts of Him ( Father, Son, and Holy Spirit ); a community within the one deity known as God.  The Creator was never alone and therefore did not want to reflect loneliness into creation.  So God needed to make Adam, a helpmate- someone who would stand by his side and do what God had assigned to his hands.  Adam needed a soul mate, a support system, and a friend ( besides God of course), so God created again.

According to scripture, God placed Adam into a deep sleep and took one of his ribs and created woman.  When Adam woke up, God presented the woman to him and Adam named her :Eve ( mother of all living).  Adam gave Eve her role in the earth and loved her, she became his wife.  Why a rib?  Why not dust again?  Why couldn’t Eve be created from the thin air? I think God chose Adam’s rib to create Eve to signify their union as one flesh.  So if Adam hurts Eve, in theory he is hurting himself.  That is the beauty of intimacy, marriage and covenant- it goes beyond one individual;s needs into the needs of another.  Think about it: God is the same way.  If God the Father hurt God the Son, He is hurting Himself – destroying His own character.  Being that man was created in the likeness of God, the creation of Eve for Adam reflected that relationship.

Eve created out of her husband, she was his perfect fit in every way and they was destined to rule the earth together: one day at a time.

God said, “It’s not good for the Man to be alone; I’ll make him a helper, a companion.” So God formed from the dirt of the ground all the animals of the field and all the birds of the air. He brought them to the Man to see what he would name them. Whatever the Man called each living creature, that was its name. The Man named the cattle, named the birds of the air, named the wild animals; but he didn’t find a suitable companion.

God put the Man into a deep sleep. As he slept he removed one of his ribs and replaced it with flesh. God then used the rib that he had taken from the Man to make Woman and presented her to the Man.

The Man said,

“Finally! Bone of my bone,
    flesh of my flesh!
Name her Woman
for she was made from Man.”
Therefore a man leaves his father and mother and embraces his wife. They become one flesh.
The two of them, the Man and his Wife, were naked, but they felt no shame.

(Genesis 2: 18-25 MSG)

Until next time,

Mo 🙂
